We are proud to bring back the VBIFF2023 to the Cultch ‘Lab ‘theater in its the 3rd consecutive year in highlighting Black Independent Film; focus on bringing the community together with the support of Canadian filmmakers, story tellers, arts facilitators and cultural activist, showcasing established and emerging talent.

BMMV2023 Theme this year is reflecting on Mental health, more mental illness, that has been a long-standing issue in the Black community worldwide and has had to contend with in silence, lacking in many cases the resources necessary to remedy its effects. It’s due in part to a history rife with trauma, injustice, and society’s attempts to nullify, and in some cases erase, the violent nature in which our African diaspora were introduced to the land of the free.

Our festival is leading to further the cause as an underrepresented arts community organizer in assisting BIPOC artists with this event covering long and short films in a growing vibrant community in the lower mainland/ BC. By focusing on inspiring content, where the global community can connect, showcase, stream, workshops, engage and heal our diaspora.
